My Journey project
from 1983 to present...
The next step...
Crafting video autobiography
Every story deserves to be told.
One day, I would love to create a video autobiography. Since leaving Jackman to join the military in 1983, I’ve lived far away from my family. Looking back, I wouldn’t recommend moving so far away that visiting for even a weekend becomes difficult. The truth is, once you build a life somewhere else, relocating becomes much harder than you ever imagined.
The world is full of beautiful places to live. Along the way, you meet someone, get married, buy a home, raise children, and establish a career. When you enjoy your work and your family is thriving, returning home is not their home. It can feel almost impossible after a certain point. There are so many things to consider — the cost of living, career opportunities, the political climate, and the needs of the family you’ve built, who matter just as much.
One day, I’d like to create a video that shares where I am today, what I’ve been doing, what drives me, and helps fill in the gaps from the past 40-plus years.
This website is a beginning — a way to communicate better and preserve my family’s legacy through the restoration of old family photographs. It’s something meaningful I can do from far away, especially when I don’t have the chance to sit on the porch with family and talk about old times. Through stories, photos, and memories, I can still pass something along — and that’s far better than not sharing at all.
Many of you probably understand this feeling. Maybe you also have family living far from home, or perhaps you are the one who moved away and can relate to the distance, the memories, and the desire to stay connected but don't know how. Social Media is not a method I prefer, traveling to Maine cost as much as a vacation to be beach and a beach rental or travel other parts of the world. The family vote counts on where to go. I rarely work a week without overtime.
My mom and dad may have stayed in Boston where Aunt Laudia and Aunt Evonne were if it wasn't for a situation back home that change things. I think mom would have preferred to stay in Boston. She understood my purpose and knew it was not easy and how much I missed home. In retirement, I plan to spend a lot of time at the lake house when I don't have to hurry back to work.
